Woodgate Valley Practice

How Do I... Make An Appointment?

All consultations are by appointment only. You may make an appointment either in person or by telephone. The practice is part of the national project for advanced access. Patients are offered same-day appointments provided that they do not mind which doctor they see and they can attend on the morning or the afternoon that they request to be seen. If all the appointments are taken for that day then patients will be offered a telephone consultation.

Patients can book an appointment with a doctor of their choice for up to two weeks in advance. Although you are registered with a specific doctor, you are free to consult any of the doctors or nurses within the practice.

Appointments are for one patient per consultation. If more than one person needs to be seen then book a separate appointment for each person. If you feel you need more than the regular 10 minutes with the doctor then book a double appointment. The doctors and nurses always try to run on time. However, unforeseeable circumstances and emergencies mean that they will sometimes run late, for which we apologise. We expect patients to arrive on time for their appointments and to inform us in good time if they are likely to be unable to keep it. This allows another patient to be seen and keeps the waiting times for appointments down to a minimum.
Patients over the age of 75 registered with the practice will be given annual health reviews upon request.

How Do I... Obtain A Home Visit?

If you are too ill to attend surgery, you may request a doctor to call. The doctor may phone you back and ask you to attend surgery if that appears more appropriate for your condition. We appreciate that illness cannot be timed, but for non-urgent home visits please telephone before 11.00am so that the doctor’s visits can be planned.

If the problem is urgent please make this clear to the receptionist and you will be dealt with immediately.

Please consider requests for home visits carefully, it is much easier for the doctor to see and examine you in surgery. Remember that in the time it takes to do one visit the doctor could see three or four people at the surgery. If you are unsure whether you need a visit we would be happy to advise you. Home visits are usually restricted to the serious or terminally ill, the elderly and housebound patients.

How Do I... Obtain Test Results?

As the results of investigations come back to the surgery, the doctors will assess them. This usually takes about a week from them being sent off but may take longer depending on the type of test. Please phone for results between 11.00am – 12 noon Monday to Friday or 2.00 – 3.00pm (except Wednesday).
